Research Focus

My research interests lie at the intersection of development economics, gender, and labor market dynamics. I employ natural experiments and quasi-experimental methods to evaluate the impact of social protection programs on reducing gender disparities, expanding educational opportunities, and improving labor market outcomes for women in low-income settings — particularly in Egypt and the broader MENA region. My work also explores the long-term effects of these interventions on issues such as child marriage and child labor, while examining how social norms — including dowry and bride price — shape patterns of violence against women, high divorce rates, and women's limited economic participation.
