Dear Guests,

The IT department welcomes you at the Max-Planck Institute.
In order to make your stay as convenient as possible, the IT department would like to give some hints.
In case you do have questions regarding technical equipment, feel free to contact:

Guests arriving without equipment:
The institute will provide a limited number of computers running a current version of Windows. It will have a current version of Microsoft Office and full Internet and Printing Access. You can choose among several Statistical Software Programs:

• SPSS
• Stata
• EViews

Should you need additional Programs, please do not hesitate to send an email to the IT helpdesk at the institute.

Guests arriving with their own equipment:
You will have access to the Internet and to local print services. Should you need access to statistical Software you can get access to by using one of the institute's computers for guests:

• SPSS
• Stata
• EViews

More things to consider:

• If you have your own equipment, please make sure you can connect to a German power outlet (230 V). In case your computer has a different power supply, please do not forget to buy an appropriate adapter at home, as those adapters are hardly available in Germany. Your computer must support a TCP\IP network and must be set to DHCP.
• Please make sure that you have sufficient permissions to install software and printers or change settings on your computer. You may also need a network adapter card. Please make sure this supports a RJ 45 plug (this is the default plug for networks).
• In order to keep our network secure, we ask you to have a current and up-to-date Virus Scanner on your notebook. Should you need Anti-Virus software the IT department can provide you a temporary license of Sophos Antivirus, which you can use at your own risk.
  In case you prefer not to have a current version of Anti-Virus Software installed and updated on your notebook, the IT department will not give you access to our network!
• Should you have a personal firewall on your computer, please make sure you have permissions to change settings.

Privacy Statement:
Please be advised that any of your personal data related to your travel to the institute are stored in a database. The database is solely used to arrange workshops and visits of guests. Access to the database is limited to authorized staff including administration, IT, and secretaries. There is no way to access the data from outside the institute. To find out which data concerning your stay have been recorded, feel free to contact the administration, IT, or inviting secretariat at any time. Please advise the inviting secretariat if you prefer your data not to be stored in our database. To have your data deleted from the database, please inform the above mentioned staff.
